El Cortez Mexican Restaurant

A Great Mexican Restaurant In Orland Park

El Cortez is located on the main stretch of Route 6 between Orland Park and Joliet. This quaint little place is roomy but offers a large affordable menu. Of course, most Mexican restaurants are very affordable and the servings are always large, and usually more than you can consume in one sitting.

We stopped in there, without reservations, and enjoyed crispy tacos, Mexican style wrapped tamales and rice. The Margaritas here were solid crushed ice and not watery.

It’s like a little ranch style home gutted and converted into a restaurant with ample parking in the back.

The waitresses are very attentive and prompt and the serve comes hot.

You don’t have to ask for refills on chips or dip. They keep it coming, which is always a good sign that you’re going to enjoy the meal. I hate having to keep asking and waiting for the basket of chips.

The dining room is spartan. The only concern I had was that on the menu, the owner warns you that “due to previous conflicts” items you ordered must be paid for “unless the discretion of the on-duty manager is given.”

I guess that means most farmers who come from far south of Orland Park can’t tell the difference between a tostada or a tortilla, and try to turn the food back once it’s been served.

Ooops!

And the night we visited, they ran out of fried ice cream, a great dessert if prepared properly.

El Cortez serves lunch and dinner from 11 a.m.
