Restaurant Review

Casa Margarita

Another Very Good Orland Park Mexican Restaurant

This is brand new, located next door to the now vacant Chi Chi’s which was once a very popular Mexican fast food hot spot in the late 1980's and 1990's.

I’m not sure why Chi Chi’s closed. Demand for Mexican food couldn’t have crashed. And in what used to be a fish restaurant that failed and then an Italian restaurant that failed, too, this new Mexican choice is fighting to succeed.

It’s very fancy. While Chi Chi’s had the look of a large Burger King, Casa Margarita has tremendous décor. But, it’s new and they are slowly working out all the kinks, which still are only a few and have to do more with prompt service than anything else.

This is not the place to go for a cheap family meal. While El Cortez only ran about $35 for three people, Casa Margarita is going to hit your pocket book. We shelled out $64 not including the tip for steak fajitas with rice and beans, stuffed steak with sides and a cheese quesadilla for the toddler who only likes Chicken McNuggets, or anything similar, or cheese.

Maybe it was the three Margaritas (which a recent TV report claims  weigh it at an enormous 800 calories each glass. Wow, that’ll push you towards Atkins real fast.)

We did manage to get the fried ice cream, which isn’t really fried at all but vanilla served on a cinnamoned crusted wafer topped with a crispy breading, whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

Still, the ante-room with the ceiling high windows facing out towards 151st Street (filled with the families and their screaming brats – mine included) is a nice and bright setting to enjoy a meal.

The food servings were enormous and I couldn’t finish everything.

The meals came with what has to be the Southwest suburbs best serving of Chicken soup. It was great with large chunks of chicken and nothing tastes better than a free, tasty side order.
