Edward Tribe, Retired Chicago Policeman, Dies
Edward C. Tribe, a retired Chicago policeman, died on Jan. 16. He was 59 years old.
Mr. Tribe was a former resident of the West Lawn neighborhood in Chicago. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the Chicago Police Department for more than 30 years.
Mr. Tribe is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Covell); son, Keith; daughter, Kristen Crampton; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were yesterday at Kurtz Memorial Chapel. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. (John J. Minich, Funeral Director.)
Angeline Bilek
Angeline “Aniela” Bilek (nee Dlugopolska), 90, died last Friday at her home in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood.
Mrs. Bilek was a retired matron cleaning lady with Northern Trust Bank.
She is survived by her daughters, Zofia Kowalkowski and Mary Peksa; son, Bruno; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Monday from Zarzycki Manor Chapels to St. Camillus Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Bernice Figura
Bernice Figura (nee Sikon), 93, a former resident of Chicago’s Archer Heights neighborhood, died Jan. 16 at a nursing home in Naperville.
Mrs. Figura worked as a waitress at Syrena Restaurant. She was a member of many clubs, including the St. Richard CCW and Golden Agers, St. Bruno Seniors, national and local chapters of AARP, St. Joseph (Summit) Seniors and Crane Company Retirees.
Among survivors are her daughter, Marlene Tamboro; sons, Gary Jones and Glenn Jones; stepsons, Richard Figura and Donald Figura; and stepdaughters, Gloria Winn and Kathy Wrobel.
Services were yesterday (Thursday) from Szykowny Funeral Home to St. Richard Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Elizabeth Godowski
Elizabeth “Betty” Godowski, 92, a resident of Chicago’s West Elsdon neighborhood, died Jan. 13 at Holy Cross Hospital.
Mrs. Godowski, a homemaker who was a longtime parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church on 46th and Wolcott, is survived by her son, Peter; daughter, Christine; brother, Louis Kobylarczyk; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Monday from Wolniak Funeral Home to St. Turibius Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Paul Jocius
Paul J. Jocius, 89, died Jan. 17 at his home in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood.
Mr. Jocius was an assembler for Crane Company. A World War II Army veteran, he was past commander of Don Varnas American Legion Post 986.
He is survived by his daughters, Rita Golden and Denise Hornik; son, Kenneth Jocius; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Wednesday from Richard-Midway Funeral Home to Our Lady of the Snows Church. Interment was at St. Casimir Cemetery.
Ruth Knoop
Ruth A. Knoop, 74, a resident of Chicago’s Chicago Lawn area, died Jan. 17 at Christ Hospital.
Ms. Knoop was a school teacher. She is survived by several relatives and friends.
Services were yesterday (Thursday) at Kosary Funeral Home. Interment was at Bethania Cemetery.
Adele Lucinski
Adele Lucinski (nee Kosiek), 86, died Jan. 12 at her home in Chicago’s Archer Heights neighborhood.
Mrs. Lucinski was a retired customer service representative at Archer Bank. She was a member of St. Bruno Mothers Club, Senior Club and Rosary Sodality.
Mrs. Lucinski is survived by her daughter, Diane Kleber; son, Stephen; two grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Byczek; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Jan. 16 from Szykowny Funeral Home to St. Bruno Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Christine Paylo
Christine B. Paylo, 69, a resident of Chicago’s Ashburn area, died Jan. 17 at Christ Hospital.
Ms. Paylo, who was formerly from Bridgeview, was a parishioner at St. Thomas More who was also involved in activities at St. Jane de Chantal.

Jerry Poniatowski
Jerry J. Poniatowski, 56, died Jan. 16 at his home in Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood in which he lived in for almost 50 years.
Mr. Poniatowski was a fork lift operator for Central Steel and Wire Co.
He is survived by his father, Marion; sisters, Marianne, Irene, Karen and Debbie; and brother, Randy.
Services were Tuesday from Wolniak Funeral Home to St. Turibius Church. Burial was at Woodlawn Crematory Chapel.
Bertha Rozak
Bertha I. Rozak, 75, a longtime resident of Burbank, died Jan. 13 at Alden Town Manor Rehab.
Mrs. Rozak, a homemaker, is survived by her daughters, Frances and Peggy; sister, Angeline “Mokie” Jozwiak; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Jan. 16 at the Hann Funeral Home. Interment was private.
Helen Rycyzyn
Helen D. Rycyzyn (nee Feczko), 87, a resident of Chicago’s Southwest Side, died last Friday at Season’s Hospice at Holy Cross Hospital.
Mrs. Rycyzyn was a factory worker at Sunbeam.
Among survivors are her daughter, Judith Corona; son, Gary Rycyzyn; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday from Szykowny Funeral Home to St. Pancratius Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Theresa Svehla
Theresa A. Svehla (nee Knack), 55, died last Friday at her home in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood.
Mrs. Svehla was a supervisor for the Holiday Inn in Willowbrook.
Among survivors are her husband, Donald Svehla; sons, Joseph Guerrero and Robert Guerrero; daughter, Wendy Wesolowski; seven grandchildren; sisters, Ann Thompson and Tina Trevino; and brother, Robert Knack.
Services were Tuesday at the Richard-Midway Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Casimir Cemetery.
V. Arroyo-Vazquez
Valentin Arroyo-Vazquez, 90, a resident of Chicago’s Southwest Side, died Jan. 13 at the West Side Veterans Hospital.
He was a World War II Army veteran who worked in a factory.
Among survivors are his wife, Julia (nee Maldonado); sons, Hector, Valentin and Gilberto Arroyo; daughter, Mildred Wanzung; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were Jan. 16 from Wolniak Funeral Home to St. Maurice Church. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery.
