Jack Cox, Member Of CPD, Dies at Age of 63
John “Jack” A. Cox, 63, a member of the Chicago Police Department, died Dec. 23 at his home in Chicago’s Clearing neighborhood.
Mr. Cox, a veteran of the Army, is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Anhalt); daughter, Laurie Roney; sons, John Jr. and Michael; five grandchildren; and brother, Michael.
Services were Wednesday from Central Funeral Chapel to St. Symphorosa Church. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Carole Bazukas
Carole L. Bazukas (nee Sheehy), 68, a resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood, died Dec. 24 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
Mrs. Bazukas was an administrator for a medical office.
She is survived by her husband, John; son, John; three grandchildren; brother, William Sheehy; sisters, Mary Ann Sheehy and Kathleen Wojciechowski; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Monday from Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium to Immaculate Conception Church. Interment was private.
Ruth Boswell
Ruth A. Boswell (nee Pinnow), 86, a resident of Chicago’s Ashburn community, died Dec. 19 at MacNeal Hospital.
Mrs. Boswell was a manager with the telephone company.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard; daughter, Robin Thomas; and sister, Dorris Baker.
Services were Dec. 24 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens South. (Arrangements were by Zimmerman & Sandeman Funeral Home.
Frank Buckley
Frank P. Buckley, 70, a resident of Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood, died Dec. 25 at Holy Cross Hospital.
Mr. Buckley was a custodian for the Chicago Public Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Parchem); sons, Francis, John, George, Bill, Mike, Howard and Ray; daughters, Kathy, Nancy, Bridget, Cindy and May; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday from Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery.
Florence Kowalski
Florence C. Kowalski (nee Lazarz), 88, a former resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood, died Dec. 18 in Lockport.
Mrs. Kowalski was a member of St. Jane de Chantal Seniors.
Among survivors are her daughters, Barbara Jones and Patricia Salvato; son, Dennis; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Dec. 23 from Parkside Chapels & Cremation Services to St. Jane de Chantal Church. Interment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Edward Modjewski
Edward M. Modjewski, 88, a resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood, died Dec. 21 at his son’s home in Bridgeview.
Mr. Modjewski was a truck driver for a furniture business. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Rhine VFW Post 2729.
Mr. Modjewski is survived by his sons, Daniel and Thomas; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Martha Chippas; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Dec. 23 at Richard Funeral Home. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Dorothy Preston
Dorothy J. Preston (nee Andrzejkiewicz), 81, a resident of Chicago’s West Elsdon neighborhood, died Dec. 22 at Holy Cross Hospital.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eugene “Gene”; sons, James, Ronald and Leonard; daughter, Nancy Robinson; four grandchildren; one great grandson; sister, Lillian Mellske; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Monday from Wolniak Funeral Home to St. Turibius Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Zic Rocco
Zic Rocco, 79, a resident of Oak Lawn, died Dec. 19 at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Mr. Rocco, a veteran of the Army, worked as an auditor.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine (nee Machaj); son, Robert; daughters, Karen Stephen, Kathleen Probasco, Mary Ellen and Linda Hood; three grandchildren; brother, Frank; and sister, Mary.
Services were Dec. 23 from Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home to St. Catherine of Alexandria Church. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery.
Lawrence Rolek
Lawrence M. Rolek, 66, died Dec. 21 at his home in Chicago’s West Elsdon neighborhood.
Mr. Rolek, a veteran of the U.S. military, was a retired supervisor in the liquor industry.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria (nee Lach); daughters, Gina Jones (CPD) and Lisa Code; one grandson; and sister, Elaine Shlika.
Services were Monday from Zarzycki Manor Chapels to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Irene Rudnicki
Irene M. Rudnicki (nee Laczynski), 94, a former Garfield Ridge resident, died Dec. 22 at MacNeal Hospital.
Mrs. Rudnicki, a homemaker, was a member of St. Joseph Seniors and Summit Seniors.
She is survived by her children, Cyndee Becker, Pam Laibl, Linda Washleski, Claudia Malzahn, Dea Rufo, Andrew Rudnicki, Mark Rudnicki and Lee Roberts; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dolores Rogers.
Services were Dec. 24 from Foran Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Joseph Schubert
Joseph F. Schubert, 54, a resident of Burbank, died Dec. 20 at Metro South Hospital.
Mr. Schubert, a former resident of Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood, was a cook in the food industry.
He is survived by his son, Joseph; daughter, Valerie; sisters, Luanne Johnson and Marianne Veal; former wife, Becky; and mother, Therese Schubert.
Services were Dec. 24 from Modell Funeral Home to St. Turibius Church. Interment was private.
Patricia Stalec
Patricia Stalec (nee Louis), 70, a resident of Burbank, died Dec. 20 at Christ Hospital.
Among survivors for Mrs. Stalec, a homemaker, is her husband, Chester; daughters, Deborah Doyle, Doreen Pappas and Donna Lemmenes; son, Steven Stalec; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Dec. 23 at Lawn Funeral Home. Interment was private.
Viola Stancato
Viola M. Stancato (nee Puntillo), 88, a Burbank resident, died Dec. 21 at Christ Hospital.
Mrs. Stancato was a bank clerk.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Amato and Marlene Hurst; son, Ralph; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday from Lawn Funeral Home to St. Albert the Great Church. Interment was at a family lot.
John Wnuk
John E. Wnuk, 81, a resident of Chicago’s Scottsdale neighborhood, died Dec. 20 at Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Mr. Wnuk was a self-employed waterproofer. An Army veteran, he was a member of Central Park American Legion Post 1028.
Mr. Wnuk is survived by his brother, Stanley Wnuk; sister, Jean Harris; and companion, Christine Sendzik.
Services were Dec. 24 from Szykowny Funeral Home to St. Bede the Venerable Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
