If you enjoy singing, St. Richard is looking for members to join a special choir in honor of its 80th anniversary. The choir will sing at the Mass on June 29. Rehearsals will be held on Mondays at 7 p.m.

St. Turibius School, 4120 W. 57th St., along with KaBOOM and Reedy Industries, is building a playground for the community. More than 200 volunteers will be helping Saturday, May 31. A preparation day is scheduled for Thursday, May 29.

The playground will provide area children a place to jump, run and giggle. Because the volunteers will be donating their time and energy, St. Turibius would like to provide them with breakfast and lunch.

Donations of paper goods, silverware, bottled water, soda, coffee, milk and juice are needed. Monetary donations may also be made. For more information, contact Sr. Mary Beth Bromer at (773) 581-2730, ext. 34. Her e-mail address is stturibiusreled@hotmail.com.

Help support St. Bruno School, 4839 S. Harding Ave., by playing Bingo there at 6:45 p.m. Fridays.

Chicago’s Farmers Markets have started.  The market at the Federal Plaza, Adams and Dearborn, will be held on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 13 to Oct. 28. The market at the Daley Plaza, Washington and Dearborn, is held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 2. I bought my tomato plants this morning.  The garden shop had many different varieties. I always take the Early Girls. Early Girls mature within 50 to 62 days, produce fruits between 4 and 8 ounces, and have a bright color and good flavor.

I also picked up the Beefmaster, which is the largest of the beefsteak type tomatoes. They are meaty, and big enough to overlap burgers. The fruits mature within 80 days. They can grow as large as two pounds.

They sound perfect for when my husband, Robert, grills his half-pound burgers.
