Local sports and travel authority Ed Kozak of Garfield Ridge will appear on the Linda P. Radio Show on AM 1530, WJJG, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 29. Hosted by radio personality Linda Padgurskis, the Linda P. Show (formerly called Financial Wellness) has been a popular talk show on WJJG for the last four years.

Ed will be making his 10th appearance on the program, at which time he will discuss a variety of travel and vacation topics, including traveling on a budget, discovering hidden gems in the Midwest and Chicago, and ideas for overnight and weekend trips within 500 miles of the city.

The Garfield Ridge Civic League will hold its next general meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, May 19 at the Home Run Inn Restaurant, 6221 S. Archer Ave.

This month’s featured guests will be Anita Cummings, executive director of the United Business Association of Chicago, and local realtor Mary Ann Dybala, president of the Garfield Ridge Chamber of Commerce.

Over at St. Daniel the Prophet Parish, 5300 S. Natoma Ave., the next St. Vincent de Paul Bundle Sunday Clothing Drive is coming during the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, May 24-25.

The St. Vincent de Paul trailers will be waiting in the church parking lot to pick up your unwanted but “gently-used” clothing.

All clothing donations should be bagged or boxed. As always, St. Dan’s thanks you for your continued support and generosity.

The Holy Name Society of St. Dan’s will be sponsoring its annual White Sox baseball outing on Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. The White Sox will be playing against the Cleveland Indians.  Tickets, which cost $15 each, may be purchased by calling John Konieczny at (773) 229-1272 or Philip Friedl at (773) 582-5915.

St. Dan’s Parish is also involved in a variety of important causes, among them the OK Clean Water Project sponsored by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame.

Canceled stamps are still being collected for this project.

Also ongoing is the need for old eyeglasses and hearing aids, which will be collected by the Lions Club at the end of this month.

The glasses will be recycled for use by people from all over the world who would, otherwise, be financially unable to purchase a pair.

In case you miss this month’s pick-up by the Lions Clubs, another one is scheduled in another four or five months.

Kristen Charleston is a young girl from St. Dan’s Parish who was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, a genetic disorder that impairs the function of parts of the cell that create the energy our bodies need to sustain our daily activities.

Children often lose the ability to walk, talk and eat. If diagnosed by age 5, they have a 20 per cent chance of living until the age of 20 years. Funds are badly needed for research to help find a cure for this deadly disease. The Charleston family is selling raffle tickets after all Masses this weekend to benefit the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

This foundation promotes research for treatments, as well as support for affected families. Please consider buying a raffle ticket to help support this important fund raiser.
