Applications are now available for a Digital Photo Contest sponsored by the Young Adult Board of the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. The competition is open to persons age 19 to 30 to submit high resolution digital jpegs on CD of up to five original photos. Prizes will be awarded. The work of winners and contest finalists will be on exhibit July 18 through Aug. 17 in the Atrium Gallery, Beverly Arts Center. An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 18, featuring Chicago DJ Chris Somera. The BAC’s Young Adult Board is open to area artists in all disciplines age 19 to 29 who wish to become more active in the Center’s programming and arts opportunities. Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court Dorothy Brown, Cook County State’s Attorney Richard Devine and an array of governmental, legal, community and religious organizations and agencies will sponsor an Adult and Juvenile Expungement Summit at Roberto Clemente Community Academy, 1147 N. Western Ave., on Saturday, June 7. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. At the summit, volunteer attorneys assist participants with the preparation of applications for the filing of petitions that qualify for expungement and sealing. The State’s Attorney, Chicago Police Department and Illinois State Police holds information sessions on their expungement petition review process. Sessions will be offered on Criminal and Financial Identity Theft presented by the State Appellate Defender (criminal) and the Illinois Attorney General (financial). The Illinois Department of Employment Security will hold an information session on job placement for ex-offenders. To have a petition filed on site, the petitioner must bring a rap sheet (criminal history) and filing fees, which may include $60 for the Clerk’s Office, $60 for the Illinois State Police, $9 per certified disposition (adult cases) or $4 per certified disposition (juvenile cases). If the case is a Class 4 Felony drug case, the petitioner will have to provide the results of a drug test taken within the past 30 days.

In celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, The Chicago Library hosts Kalapriya Dance and I Gusti Nurah Kertayda, who will present a lecture and demonstration of East Indian and Indonesian Dance forms. The free program will be held at 12:15 p.m. in the lower level of the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St. Kalapriya Dance, led by Pranita Jain, will present “Bharta Natayam,” an ancient East Indian dance that uses stylized hand gestures, theatrical facial expressions, footwork and rhythms and counter rhythms to visualize poetry, mythology and universal themes. The Seventh Annual Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at the Graue Mill and Museum, 3800 York Road, Oak Brook. The lawn of the Mill is the backdrop for more than 40 artists who will exhibit a variety of art for the home and garden. The festival features paintings, ceramics, hand woven textiles, mosaics, pastels, stained glass, jewelry, and wildlife and nature photography. Admission to the Fine Arts Festival is free, and refreshments will be available during show hours. The Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice DNA Discovery Center has opened as a permanent exhibit at The Field Museum, 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive. The exhibit will allow guests to occasionally to speak to visiting scientists about DNA in a hands-on interactive genetics lab. For more details, call (312) 922-9410.
