Another local player on the St. Xavier baseball roster, sophomore second baseman Matt Mueller — who is a Burbank resident and Marist High School graduate — was recently named to the region’s Rawlings Gold Glove Team.

The team is a nine-player squad representing the region’s top defensive player for each of the nine positions on the field.

Going into the regional tournament, Mueller had made just seven errors while posting 110 putouts and 133 assists for a .972 fielding percentage.

Mueller also received First-Team honors on the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Team, while Skelly garnered honorable mention recognition.

Mueller, in addition to his defensive accomplishments, was recognized for his offensive prowess, batting .361 during the regular season with 61 hits, 48 runs scored and 41 RBIs.

Skelly hit .275 with 58 hits, 30 RBIs and 48 runs scored.
