Protect Your Childen By Teaching Them Well

Editor: How can we protect our children from harm? It is impossible to watch over them at all times. That is why we must teach them to discipline their minds.

We are a visual society and role modeling is a lost art. We live in a fast world where anything goes. Our children are introduced to the ways of our world at a very early age, robbing them of their childhood.

It is the responsibility of the parents to provide a foundation of basic skills. Children need to be taught right from wrong. They must learn about self respect, respect for others and responsibility.

Loving, encouraging, listening and advising are necessary parent tools. The children need to understand that drugs, sex, alcohol and gang membership are not solutions for peer pressure, self-esteem or any other problem.

These things just become a lifelong problem sometimes never solved.

Money, looks and fame are short lived. A child’s aim should be to be the best he or she can be. Family, friends, education, peace, love, health and good deeds are self-rewarding.

Children killing children is more than unacceptable. For the lack of a better word, it is horrendous. We need to take the violence out of TV, movies, video games, etc.

It is sending the wrong message to our children. I suppose some people will balk because they enjoy blood and guts. I don’t find it entertaining. Children are great imitators. Let us give them something good to imitate.

Kudos to Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and those parents taking action to save the children. God bless them all!
