Arrest Made For Incident At St. Xavier
A 19-year-old St. Xavier University student has been charged with writing the threatening messages that closed the school for several days last month.
Katherine Loberg, 19, of St. Paul, Minn., was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal defacement of property.The university also announced that Loberg is on administrative suspension and not allowed back on campus.
St. Xavier closed on April 11 after two graffiti messages were found in bathrooms in one of the residence halls. The campus reopened April 16 after police told the school it was safe to allow students to return.
Students who live on campus were sent home on April 11.
Joseph Moore, St. Xavier media relations director, said that Loberg was found to be the offender after a police investigation.
2 Shot, One Fatally, On 63rd Street
A 34-year-old man was killed and a 46-year-old man seriously injured in a shooting Tuesday in Marquette Manor.
Jermaine Price, 34, from the 8000 block of South Ada Street, was killed when he suffered multiple gunshot wounds at about 1:45 p.m. on the 2500 block of West 63rd Street.
The 46-year old victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Area One detectives are investigating the incident.
According to police, the two victims were standing outside when the offender pulled up, opened fire and fled.
Police said there is no description of the offender or of the vehicle he was driving.
Senior Citizen Beaten and Robbed in Alley
A 70-year-old man was robbed in an alley on the 7300 block of South Mozart at about 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
A witness saw the victim being beaten up by three males in an alley. The offenders then took the victim’s wallet and fled in an unknown direction.
Man Beaten Up and Car-Jacked
A male was car-jacked on the 3900 block of West 83rd Place on Sunday.
According to police, soon after the victim exited his 1999 green four-door Lexus he was approached by three males.
One of the offenders allegedly punched him in the face, brandished a pistol and demanded the keys to his car. The victim threw his keys to the offender, and fled the scene. The offenders then jumped in the victim’s vehicle and drove away.
The first offender was described as black, 17 to 23 years old, 5’5 or 5’6 and 150 pounds, and dressed in all black. The other two offenders were described as blacks 17 to 23 years of age.
Teen Charged with Armed Robbery
A 16-year-old male was arrested for armed robbery on the 3200 block of West 71st Street at 8:32 p.m. May 1.
According to police, the victim was approached by two offenders, one of whom pointed a gun at the victim’s chest and demanded money. The second offender went through the victim’s pockets and removed his wallet and fled the scene.
While police were talking to the victim, the offenders were seen running southbound on Kedzie. The officers detained one of the offenders and charged him with armed robbery.
69-Year-Old Man Car-Jacked
A man was car-jacked at about 5:05 p.m. May 3 on the 6600 block of South Claremont.
A 69-year-old man was in his vehicle when a male, accompanied by another male, knocked on the window displaying a handgun, ordered the victim to roll down his window, and demanded money. But the victim refused to give the men his money.
The other offender ordered the victim out and again demanded money. The victim gave the offenders $21 in cash, and the offenders drove off in the victim’s 1991 four-door grey Toyota.
The first offender was described as black, 19 years old, 6’0 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweater and blue jeans. The second offender was described as black, 19 years old, about 5’6 and 155 pounds. He was wearing a blue sweater and blue jeans.
Marquette Manor Teen Is Shot in Foot
A 16-year-old male was shot in the foot at 12:12 p.m. last Friday on the 7200 block of South Claremont.
According to police, the victim and three of his friends were walking to the victim’s residence when they were approached by a man who pulled out a gun and fired one shot towards the ground, hitting the victim in the right foot. The offender then fled the scene.
The offender was described as black, about 20-years-old, 5’6 and 238 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
Two Charged with Shooting Teen in Thigh
A 16-year-old male was shot in the leg and two were charged at 4:03 p.m. last Friday on the 2900 block of West 64th Street.
Police found the victim in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his right thigh.
Javier Soto, 20, from the 5500 block of South Whipple, and Maurico Flores, 21, from the 6200 block of Francisco, were both charged with aggravated battery with a handgun.
According to police, the offenders had circled around the block a few times before a “heavy” man fired a few shots out of the passenger side of a vehicle and fled the scene. Police saw a vehicle matching the description of the offending vehicle, and the two men were positively identified.
Gang-Related Stabbing in Garfield Ridge
An 18-year-old male was stabbed in the chest and stomach on the 5700 block of South Austin Avenue at about 6 p.m. last Friday.
According to police, the victim and some of his friends were walking south on Austin when they were approached by members of a rival gang who flashed gang signs at the victims, who responded by flashing their own gang signs.
A scuffle ensued, and one of the offenders pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim once in the chest and once in the stomach. The victim was taken to MacNeal Hospital.
The offender was described as a white male, 18-years-old, 5’9 and 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He was wearing a hat, black shirt, blue jeans and brown boots.
Gang-Related Shooting in Gage Park
A 28-year-old man was shot in the chest at about 2 a.m. Saturday, May 3 on the 5500 block of South Mozart.
According to a witness, they heard five or six gunshots and ran out of their garage to find the victim on the ground.
The victim received gunshot wounds to his left elbow, face area and lower back. He was transferred to Christ Hospital in critical condition. Police believe the shooting was gang related.
The two offenders were both described as Hispanic males, 18 to 21 years old, 5’7 with medium builds. One offender was wearing a red shirt and blue jeans, and the second was wearing a black shirt and black pants.
