Congratulations to Judy Banasiak, a dedicated St. Bruno school teacher who will be retiring this year. She has been an educator for more than 30 years. A memory book is being put together at St. Bruno. If you have any pictures, stories or memories of how Mrs. Banasiak has touched your life, please drop them off at the St. Bruno rectory, 48th and Harding, or e-mail them to stbruno@comcast.net.
The United States Post Office is adjusting its prices for shipping services. On Monday, May 12, the price of a First Class Stamp will be 42 cents. But buy the Forever stamps now at the bargain price of 41 cents and you can use them “forever.”
For all of your postal needs, log on to www.usps.com. We order all our stamps here and they charge $1 for this service no matter how many stamps that you order.
Super Bingo will be played at St. Richard, 5032 S. Kostner Ave., on Saturday, May 10. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the games start at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
In a prior column, I suggested that everyone should see the “Jersey Boys.” The St. Richard Golden Agers have acquired a group of balcony tickets for the matinee on Wednesday, Aug. 6. If you are interested in purchasing the tickets, call Terry at (773) 582-5203. But again a word of warning: The “F” word is prevalent.
St. Richard will be celebrating its 80th anniversary Sunday, June 29.
Little Company of Mary Hospital, 2800 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park, is sponsoring its 21st Annual Men’s Wellness Event on Saturday, June 14. There will be comprehensive blood screenings, blood counts, blood oxygen level exams, colon-rectal cancer detection kits, blood pressure screenings and breakfast. The cost is $55 for the day; all of the tests would run $400 if done separately. Reservations are required, so call the health education center at (708) 423-5774.
If you are looking for an inexpensive vacation, Las Vegas is not the place to look. My girlfriend Pat and I just got back from a wonderful weekend, but an expensive one. We sat poolside all of Saturday where a tropical drink cost $12. My tuna fish sandwich without french fries or chips ran $10. The cost of the REO Speedwagon/Def Leppard concert was $88, and we sat in the rafters.
We saw a show with fake celebrities that cost $50 for about an hour and 15 minutes. I know Las Vegas is sin city, but the way women dress these days makes no sense.
Pat and I were tempted to buy a tight dress with the hem a millimeter below our rear ends, high heeled pumps, fake boobs and walk around the city showing our butts to the world, but we chickened out.
A special thank you to my readers who sent sympathy thoughts on the death of my sister, Cindy.
