Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, step-mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers and special women of Greater Ashburn! Enjoy your special celebration with your families this Sunday, May 11.

For all residents and organizations in Greater Ashburn, Saturday, May 17 is Mayor Daley’s Spring Clean & Green Day.

This citywide volunteer clean-up invites you to team up with community groups and the City of Chicago to help beautify your neighborhood and community. The city provides all the tools you’ll need to get the job done.  Register to volunteer by calling 311.

Wrightwood Highlights

In case you forget to pick up a gift for Mom, St. Thomas More Church, 8130 S. California Ave., will have flower bouquets available for purchase following the weekend Masses on Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11.

Prices range from $7 to $12 for carnation, mixed floral, and rose bouquets.  Proceeds will support the Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland.

Also, Cardinal Francis George will celebrate the Annual Respect Life Office Mother’s Day Mass at St. Thomas More Church at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 11. Due to the closure of Holy Name Cathedral for repairs, St. Thomas More was selected to host this special Mass. Call the rectory office at (773) 436-4444 for more details regarding the flower sale and/or the Respect Life Office’s Mother’s Day Mass.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, CAPS Beat 835 meets in the Community Room at the Wrightwood-Ashburn Library, 8530 S. Kedzie Ave. Plan on attending and meet CPD Chicago Lawn (8th) District Cmdr. John Kupczyk. For more information, contact the 8th District Community Policing Office at (312) 747-8724.

The Wrightwood Improvement Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in the Quigley Room at St. Thomas More Church, 2825 W. 81st St. (Enter from the parking lot’s side drive). Contact the WIA at (773) 476-2546 for more information.

The Women of Wrightwood present “Famous Paintings” at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24 at the Wrightwood-Ashburn Library, 8530 S. Kedzie Ave., in the library’s Community Room.

The Beat 834 CAPS meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, May 12 in the Social Room at Bogan High School, 3939 W. 79th St. Use the east side doors to enter the school.  CPD 8th District Cmdr. Scottsdale Highlights

The Pro-Life Committee of St. Bede the Venerable Church, 8200 S. Kostner Ave., will also be selling flower bouquets for your mother and grandmother on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 following Masses. So, don’t forget to pick up a colorful bouquet for that special woman in your life.
