May 7, 2008   Southwest News-Herald - Oak Lawn, Burbank, Bridgeview

Hello, Bridgeview!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful mothers out there. To my own kids, I just want to add a sweet thank you for making my job as a mother so wonderful.

The Bridgeview Senior Citizens Commission will meet at 1 p.m.  Wednesday, May 7 at the Bridgeview Community Center, 7902 S. Oketo Ave., to plan for the May Movie Day. Following the Senior Commission meeting, the Bridgeview Aging Well Committee will meet.

The time of the meeting is approximately 1:30 p.m. The Bridgeview Golden Agers will hold their next meetings on Tuesday, May 13 and May 27. New members are welcome, but they must be Bridgeview residents at least 55 years of age.

The meetings are held at noon at the Bridgeview Community Center, 7902 S. Oketo Ave. Refreshments are served after each meeting and are followed by some friendly games of bingo. Transportation to the Center is available by calling (708) 458-4675 the day before the meeting to arrange for a bus pickup.

If you have any questions about the Golden Agers, please feel free to call Ken Dushek at (708) 594-6538. The Golden Agers who will be celebrating their birthday in May are George Kacmarek and Sophie Simonis.

Congratulations to the students who were winners in the District 109 Annual Spelling Bee on April 22. From Lyle School, the winners were Omnia Osman, Skye Castaneda and Christian Perez. Brodnicki students honored were Claudia Dudzik and Dominik Dudek.

From Bridgeview, the winners were Kamil Maka and Alen Oneil. Students from Wilkins honored were Alyssa Patter and Chris Mayes.

Kid Safe City, 8110 S. Ferdinand Ave., is registering for their summer safety program. This two-week program is a “hands on” safety program designed especially for children ages 4-9 years old. Children attend from 9 to 11 a.m. for two weeks from June 16 to 27.

Topics covered include police, fire, stranger danger, dog safety, weather safety, bicycle and 911. The cost for the two weeks is $60 per child with a family discount available. Kid Safe City T-shirts are also available for $5. For more information or space availability, contact Joan Simon at (708) 227-1129.

Tip to ponder: Here is something to think about the next time you have to go to court: When you go to court, you are putting yourself in the hands of 12 jurors who weren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty.

See you next week…
