
An Eagle Scout is a scout with the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges, demonstrating Scout spirit, service and leadership that include an extensive service project.
The title of Eagle Scout is held for life. Three young men recently obtained this title from Boy Scout Troop 406, Iroquois District Chicago Area Council.
Eagle Scout Michael Strocchio is a junior at Brother Rice High School, as is Eagle Scout Joseph Preston. Eagle Scout Michael Sinisi is a junior at Fenwick High School. Congratulations to all three.

General Mills Box Tops are being collected in the vestibule at St. Bruno Church, 4839 S. Harding Ave. A variety of General Mills products feature box tops for education. Each box top collected is worth ten cents. Save your box tops and bring them to the church each week.
A new Archer Heights Chamber of Commerce group will begin operations on July 1. Its office will be located at 4647 W. 47th St. An e-mail address is already in place, at westlawncc-archer@yahoo.com.
It will provide businesses in the Archer Heights community with the same opportunities for promotion, networking, training and community service that businesses in West Lawn receive from the West Lawn Chamber of Commerce.
The West Lawn Chamber of Commerce is announcing the 2008 Cinco de Mayo Taste of West Lawn Restaurant Tour. The dinner tour will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 5. Participants will travel in a group to various neighborhood restaurants enjoying samples from each.

May 1 is celebrated all across Europe as Labor Day, or May Day. It has origins in a movement right here in Chicago that advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation and eight hours for rest in each day. Many countries celebrate by holding parades and patriotic events.

Several months ago, my friend Pat asked me to go online to see when REO Speedwagon would be playing in Chicago. Unfortunately, they had no close dates set in the Chicago area but they were scheduled to play in Las Vegas on April 25.
Well, I’m off to pack my bags because we are leaving to see REO Speedwagon, Styx and Def Leppard perform at the Palms Hotel as my husband stays home and watches the animals. I’ll let you know how it was next week.
