That monster roller coaster ride named cancer has let me off, for now. My sister Cindy passed away on April 10 at the age of 53. She battled the disease for more than six months. She was a 1968 graduate of St. Turibius and a 1972 graduate of Lourdes. She was a caring wife and, most importantly, a loving mother to her son Scott who attends Southern Illinois University.
Thank you to all the friends, neighbors and relatives who came to visit Sunday. To Cindy, I loved her. And the eeriest feeling about this whole ordeal is now I am the last person standing in my immediate family.
St. Richard will be offering its successful “Summer Adventure” program for children ages 3 to 10. The program will run Monday, June 16 through Friday, July 25. Cost for the program varies from $110 to $125 per week and includes daily lunch and snacks.
The program is available from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration for the program is now being accepted. For more information, call (773) 585-1221.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about my girlfriend Pat and her fund-raiser. There was a typing error in the dates she and her volunteers will be visiting the neighborhood churches.
The correct dates are at St. Joseph’s in Summit on May 10 and May 11, St. Daniel’s on May 10 and May 11, and St. Daniel’s once again on May 17 and May 18. Please try your luck at the raffle. Your donation will serve a good purpose.
The St. Bruno Boy Scout Troop will be featuring a French Toast Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at 4839 S. Harding Ave. The price for adults is $5 and the price for children is $3. Southpaw, the Chicago White Sox mascot, will be on hand from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. playing games and taking pictures. A French toast breakfast sounds like a nice spin on the traditional pancake breakfast.
It appears that my favorite White Sox player’s back is working just fine. Here’s to the fine start of the baseball year for Joe Crede. One of our Sox friends from Bridgeport told us that you may find some pretty good ticket deals on the White Sox Web site, http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/.
Here, through StubHub, some season ticket holders who can’t make every game may ask face value for their tickets. StubHub is not a ticket broker and doesn’t own the tickets you can purchase. StubHub was started to provide an active marketplace where fans can gather to buy and sell tickets.
My husband had a phone conference the morning of April 18 at 4:30 a.m. with the folks in Europe. As I lay in bed at that time I felt the bed shake. I immediately thought my dog Buddy was rolling around, but he was not on the bed.
The next thought I had was my sister Cindy was giving me a sign she was still around, so I went back to bed with that thought.
When I came downstairs at 6:30 a.m., my husband announced that I missed the earthquake. I guess I didn’t miss the earthquake, I just thought it was Cindy.
