“The Ballad of Emmett Till” will be presented on stage from April 26 through June 1 at the Goodman Theatre, 270 N. Dearborn St. Till was a 14-year-old African American boy who was killed while vacationing in Mississippi for allegedly whistling at a white woman. His death became the jump-start for the civil rights movement in the United States. This world premiere is part history and part ghost story. The presentation integrates past and present, living and dead, factual accounts and creative interpretation. The presentation was written by Chicago author Ifa Bayeza and includes music, poetry and theatrics. Financial journalist Terry Savage will present a program on financial planning and retirement beginning at noon Monday, April 21 in the lower level of the Cindy Prtizker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St. Planners from the EPA of Illinois will provide one-on-one planning sessions after her presentation. Savage is a personal finance and regular commentator on CBNN, CNBC, and NBC on issues related to investing and financial markets. She has won the National Press Club award  for Outstanding Consumer Journalist, Outstanding Personal Finance Columnist and two Emmys for her television work. M. Cherif Bassiouni, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, will deliver Elmhurst College’s eighth annual alGhazali lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the Founders Lounge of the College’s Frick Center, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst. Admission is free. Bassiouni is a research professor of law at DePaul University College of Law and president emeritus of the International Human Rights of Law Institute. In 1991, Bassiouni was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in the field of international criminal justice and for his contributions to the creation of the International Criminal Court. He has received awards for his work in international law from Germany, France, the United States, Austria, Italy and the Arab Republic of Egypt. He is also the author of 27 books and 217 articles on a range of legal issues, including international criminal law, comparative criminal law, and international rights law. The Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood Symposium on Responsible Fatherhood and Policy will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26 in the Library Sun Room, Level 4, at Chicago State University, 9501 S. Martin Luther King Drive. The council is committed to increase the proportion of children growing up with an involved, responsible father in Illinois. Registration for the Summer Arts Experience programs will be offered for children ages 5 to 12 at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. The Summer Arts Experience is an interdisciplinary art camp offering music, drama, dance, ceramics, computers, film and visual arts for five two-week sessions. The classes are offered from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Summer Arts Experience camps feature different, age-appropriate curriculums each session so students can take more than one session without repeating lessons. Sessions are: Dare to Dream, June 19-26; Art Everywhere!, July 1-10;  Pure Imagination, July 15-24; A Madcap Adventure, July 29-Aug. 7; and  Feel the Beat, Aug. 12-21.  BAC members receive 10 percent off tuition, and the 10 percent early registration discount will be offered through May 1.
