Charge Chicago Woman With Shoplifting
A woman was arrested for shoplifting at Marshalls, 9601 S. Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn, at about 12:20 p.m. March 29.
A loss prevention officer reported he saw Veronica Dominquez, 28, from the 2800 block of South Kilbourn in Chicago, place two bottles of men’s cologne in her purse. Dominquez then reportedly walked past the last point of purchase without paying for the items.
The loss prevention officer approached her and escorted her to the security office. Police arrived and charged her with one count of retail theft. The merchandise was valued at $54.98.
OL Police Investigating Kidnapping Attempt
Another child abduction attempt took place Thursday, March 20 in Oak Lawn.
In this latest incident, a 10-year-old boy was walking home from school on the 8700 block of Austin Avenue, around 3 p.m., when a man honked his horn and gestured for the boy to come towards his older two-door turquoise vehicle.
The two men in the vehicle were described as Hispanics males, about 20 to 25 years of age.
Oak Lawn Detective Mike Coughlin said that such incidents have been reported more by the media lately because police are now telling schools about any incident involving children.
When asked if offenders in such cases are often similar, Coughlin said that wasn’t the case.
The offenders’ description are all different — from blacks to whites and Hispanics, with all different hair colors and vehicles, according to Coughlin.
“There is no common denominator,” he said.
Oak Lawn Police have charged one man with attempted child abduction, but that was two months ago. And there have been a few incidents since then, and all of the victims have been around the same age.
There was also another attempted abduction on Wednesday, March 19, on 90th Place and Austin Avenue, around 8:45 a.m. An offender in a white older van pulled up next to a young boy, opened the door and demanded the boy get in the vehicle.
There was no description of the offender in that incident.
Walgreens Thief Apprehended
Police were told at about 7:35 p.m. April 1 that a subject who allegedly stole something from the Walgreens at 6201 W. 95th St. was running through an alley.
On the way to the area, police received another call saying the offender got on a Pace bus. Police followed the bus east on 95th Street, and they saw the offender allegedly stuffing something under his seat, then move to a different seat. Police stopped the bus on 95th Street and 54th Avenue. As police were approaching the bus, the offender, Darrell Yarbrough, 25, from the 2200 block of East 70th Street, attempted to exit the bus.
Officers attempted to stop Yarbrough, who pushed the officers and started to run. Police caught up to Yarbrough on the same block and placed him into custody. Police said he had two bags, which contained two cartons of cigarettes. Police searched the bus where they saw Yarbrough stuff something under his seat, and found two pairs of Nike shoes.
Yarbrough was positively identified by a Walgreens employee, and he was charged with a felony for retail theft.
Fight On A Bus
Police received a phone call that there was a fight on a Pace bus on the 10700 block of South Cicero at 7:36 p.m. April 2.
According to police, the offender, Kirk Flakes, 45, from the 6900 block of South Stewart in Chicago, was told by the bus driver that he needed to put in a dollar, which Flakes did. Then the driver asked Flakes if he wanted a transfer. According to reports, Flakes then got angry and pushed the driver in her chest, grabbed her arm and slapped her in the face.
Flakes then went to the back of the bus and started to harass other customers, according to police. Police arrived, but Flakes would not allow himself to be placed under arrest. After police were able to place him under arrest, Flakes allegedly spit on the officers in the car.
Flakes is charged with two counts of battery and one count of resisting arrest.
Disorderly Conduct
A man was charged with disorderly conduct at 3:50 p.m. April 1 at TCF Bank, 8801 S. Ridgeland Ave.
Phillio Gutierrez, 45, from the 8000 block of South Melvina in Burbank, entered the bank and tried to make a deposit. The bank employees asked for a picture identification, which Gutierrez was unable to provide.
Gutierrez then allegedly started yelling at employees and threatened to have one “taken care of.” Gutierrez then walked through the door that said employees only, which led to the area where the registers and money are. An employee quickly locked the second door, so Gutierrez could not get in.
Police arrived, and charged Gutierrez with disorderly conduct.
