Women's Club Meetings
Robin Baumgarten, morning news anchor at WGN-TV Channel 9 and a 1986 graduate of Queen of Peace High School, will serve as the honorary chair and master of ceremonies Friday, April 11 at Queen of Peace High School’s 5th Annual Mazzuchelli Scholarship Benefit.
Baumgarten and Peace’s Board of Directors host the dinner auction at the Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook. The Mazzuchelli Scholarship event — Buona Sera, A Good Night for a Great Benefit — is the school’s largest annual academic scholarship and financial-aid fund-raiser for students.
Since its inception four years ago, Buona Sera has raised more than $160,000 in scholarship dollars. This year, Queen of Peace granted $212,400 in direct academic scholarships and tuition assistance to 191 students and was able to assist an additional 43 students by partnering with outside sources.
This year’s affair includes hors d’oeuvres, a grand buffet and sweet table, live entertainment and valet parking for $125 per person. The benefit will be held at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus in Oak Brook from 6 to 10 p.m. More information may be obtained by calling (708) 458-7600, ext. 250 or by visiting www.peaceleads.info.
The St. Nicholas Ladies’ Philoptochos Society will be preparing homemade Greek pastries and other delicacies in preparation for the observance of Orthodox Easter on Sunday, April 27.
The women will be making baklava, Kourambiedes, Koulouria and melomakaroma, as well as cheese and spinach triangles and pastitsio. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is at 10301 S. Kolmar Ave, Oak Lawn.
Items may be ordered by calling (708) 636-7874.
The many facets of women will be explored during a Women’s Empowerment Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills.
The workshop will take place in Building C, Moraine Room 3, on campus. The cost to attend is $150 and includes lunch.
Dr. Martha Hernandez, an adult, child and adolescent psychiatrist, will teach techniques that will allow women to evaluate, discriminate and implement pathways to self-fulfillment and empowerment. Her three-pronged approach will focus on physical aspects of women, including body changes, caring for themselves, and creating harmony through giving and receiving; emotional aspects such as how beliefs affect relationships and how women are led to their beliefs; and spiritual aspects that ask questions about purpose, connecting to the universe, and finding good inside yourself.
Hernandez specializes in empowerment training and uses energy medicine in her practice to help patients with relaxation, self-awareness and self-empowerment.
To register for this workshop or for more information, e-mail the college’s Workforce Development and Community Services Department at wdcs@morainevalley.edu or call (708) 974-2110.
