Wrightwood Highlights

On Saturday, April 5, Wrightwood-Ashburn Library, 8530 S. Kedzie Ave., presents “Shelebration! Shel Silverstein Story time” at 2:30 p.m. Bring the children and grandchildren in to hear some of Silverstein’s renowned children’s stories and poems. For additional information, contact the library at (312) 747-2696.

The Altar Guild at St. Thomas More Church, 8130 S. California Ave., will gather for Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 6. The guild will meet in Donlan Hall following the service. A continental breakfast will be served.  For more details, contact the rectory office at (773) 436-4444.

Don’t forget to pick up your enrollment application for the Chicago International Charter School-Wrightwood Campus, 8130 S. California Ave., for the 2008-09 school year, and submit it by Friday, April 11.

Admission will be granted via a random lottery for this non-selective enrollment elementary school (grades kindergarten through eighth). Visit the school for applications weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at www.cicswrightwood.org. Contact the school’s office at (773) 434-4575 for additional information.

Ashburn Highlights

At 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, the Beat 834 CAPS meeting is being held at Bogan High School’s Social Room, 3939 W. 79th St. Enter the school via the east side doors. For more details, contact the Community Policing Office at (312) 747-8724. The Ashburn and Scottsdale neighborhoods are included in the area covered by Beat 834.

Scottsdale Highlights

St. Bede the Venerable’s Women’s Guild hosts Bunco Night beginning at 6 p.m.Saturday, April 12 in the church hall, 8200 S. Kostner Ave. The games start at 7 p.m. Advanced tickets are $20, and included will be a bonus raffle ticket.

Tickets will be available at-the-door for $25. Bring two cans of food to donate and receive an extra raffle ticket. Call either Sylvia at (773) 350-3903 or Debbie at (773) 284-8585 for tickets and additional information.

As the neighborhood churches, schools, and organizations finalize their spring plans, be sure to invite your Greater Ashburn neighbors to these events, fund-raisers, and special programs.
