St. Bruno is in need of ushers to help in taking up collections, greeting people at the door and distributing bulletins. Let them know if you are interested by calling (773) 523-3467.

March 30 is Divine Mercy Sunday. The St. Bruno Holy Name Society invites you to come for a special bilingual prayer service following the 10:30 a.m. Mass.  There will be refreshments in the parish hall following the service.

If you were married in 1958, have a happy 50th anniversary. Did you know it was 14-year-old Bobby Fischer who won the United States Chess Championship, Ellen Degeneres, Prince and Kevin Bacon were born in this year, and that the U.S. Army inducted Elvis Presley as a U.S. private?

Celebrate your golden anniversary at The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7.  The Mass will be held at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St.

If you are interested in attending this celebration, contact your parish to register. For further information, call the Family Ministries Office at (312) 751-8351 or visit the Web site at www.familyministries.org.

The White Sox home opener is at 3:05 p.m. Monday, April 7 against Minnesota. That other team that wears blue and plays up north opens at home at 1:20 p.m. Monday, March 31 against Milwaukee. The minor league Windy City Thunderbolts do not start playing until May.

The City of Chicago is hosting Play Ball Chicago! on Tuesday, April 8. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Daley Plaza, Washington and Dearborn streets.  There will be free activities, including batting cages, appearances by former baseball players, speed pitching and free giveaways.

There will also be a drive to collect new and used baseball gloves for area little league teams and non-profit organizations. Baseball glove donations will be accepted.

As I write this on Good Friday morning, I try to remember if there was ever a Good Friday in my life with a forecast of six inches of snow for the Chicago area.

I certainly remember gloomy, rainy Good Friday afternoons, but I can’t remember six inches of snow. Weather reports say it shouldn’t last long because of the position of the sun and the warmer ground.

Hopefully by the time you read this, it will really be spring.
