Unhappy with your property tax assessment?  Tonight (Friday, March 28), Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Larry Rogers Jr. and 18th Ward Ald. Lona Lane present “Appealing Your Property Tax Assessment” at 6 p.m. at the 18th Ward Service Office, 8146 S. Kedzie Ave. 

Residents should bring a tax bill and may appeal their assessments on the spot. For additional information, contact the office at (773) 471-1991 or Commissioner Rogers at (312) 603-5540.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository’s “Produce Mobile” makes another stop in the Greater Ashburn and Gresham areas. Free produce will be distributed at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3 (or until the food is gone) at the Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church, 2301 W. 79th St. Contact the church at (773) 737-6369, or call (773) 737-7843 for more information.

Wrightwood Highlights

It’s not too late to submit an application for your child to enroll at the Chicago International Charter School-Wrightwood Campus, 8130 S. California Ave., for the 2008-09 school year. CICS-Wrightwood  Campus is a non-selective enrollment elementary school (grades kindergarten through eighth). Admission is granted through a random lottery. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, April 11.

Ashburn Highlights

Baseball’s spring training season leads to the actual start of the baseball season. What better way to put winter behind us than to reserve tickets for a Chicago White Sox game. (We are South Siders, after all.)

Forget the snow last Friday and plan on joining St. Denis Church, 8300 S. St. Louis Ave., as it attends the Sox vs. the Cleveland Indians game on Monday, June 30. Tickets, which are $20, include transportation to the “Cell.” Contact the rectory at (773) 434-3313 for more details.

Scottsdale Highlights

Haven’t had your Girl Scout cookie fix yet?  You may appease that annual urge for thin mints, etc., this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30. On Saturday, April 12, the St. Bede the Venerable Women’s Guild hosts Bunco Night. All are invited to the St. Bede Church Hall, 8200 S. Kostner Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the dice rolling begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, and include a bonus raffle ticket. At the door, tickets are $25.
