
Wrightwood Highlights — Easter is right around the corner and Palm Sunday, is March 16. St. Thomas More Church will be hosting its third annual Palm Sunday Family Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Donlan Hall, 8130 S. California Ave. The afternoon hours will include palm weaving, Easter egg coloring, and an Easter egg hunt.
This year they will be combining the Palm Sunday Family Day with their St. Joseph Table. Tickets are not necessary. However, for planning purposes, call the church rectory at (773) 436-4444 to let them know you will be there.
Another Easter tradition for many folks includes a pilgrimage to a number of churches on Holy Thursday night, March 20. St. Thomas More plans to visit a number of local churches following the evening’s services.
A bus will depart the church’s parking lot (enter from 81 Street and South Mozart) at 8:30 p.m. The expected return time is 11:30 p.m. To reserve a seat on the bus, contact the rectory office at (773) 436-4444.
Cancellation Notice: The Wrightwood Improvement Association scheduled for Thursday, March 20 is cancelled. Next meeting is Thursday, April 17.
On Friday, March 21, Hayes Park, 2936 W. 85th St., presents its Gym Showcase from 7 to 8:15 p.m. The program is open to all, and the cost is $2. Contact the park office at (312) 747-6177 for more information.
Plan on joining the Women of Wrightwood on Saturday, March 22 for a special program on the women who have made significant contributions to the arts, including performance, composition and American song.
The History Singers will present “Notable Women of American Song” at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22 in the Community Room at the Wrightwood-Ashburn Library, 8530 S. Kedzie Ave. The women include the well-known and the obscure — from Judy Garland, to “Rosie the Riveter” to Fanny Crosby.

Ashburn Highlights — At 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, a Beat 834 CAPS meeting will be held in the Social Room at Bogan High School, 3939 W. 79th St. Residents should use the east side doors to enter the school. The Ashburn and Scottsdale neighborhoods are included in area covered by Beat 834.
