A group of local students has been selected for the 2009 dean’s list at DePaul University for the fall quarter.
To receive dean’s list commendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above on a four-point scale.
Among those earning dean’s list honors were Edgar Padilla, Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood; Valeria Ramirez, Garfield Ridge; Denise Ruiz, Chicago’s Clearing neighborhood; Katarzyna Solarczyk, Garfield Ridge; Olga Villegas, Garfield Ridge; Maximo Gonzalez, Chicago’s Ashburn neighborhood; and Ashley Huntington, Ashburn.
Also making the dean’s list were Paul Lam, Chicago’s Scottsdale neighborhood; Georgina Leal, Ashburn; Ryan Lontka, Scottsdale; Lizette Rubio, Scottsdale; and Melissa Virella, Ashburn.
A student from Oak Lawn, was among those who recently received his Library Science degree from Clarion University in Clarion, Pa.
James Pawluczyk, a resident of Oak Lawn, received an MSL degree during commencement ceremonies on Dec. 19. Ceremonies were held in the Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.
Two local students at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., were among the finalists for an award recently presented by the producers of the Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards.
The duo were honored for their work on a video that tells the story of the university’s departments, organizations and students.
Jim Bogdanich and Lilia Oakey, both residents of Burbank, were involved in the production.
Bogdanich, a senior television-radio major, is the son of Debra and James Bogdanich of Burbank. Oakey, a senior in creative writing and television-radio major, is the daughter of Elizabeth and James Oakey of Burbank.
The video project, “Spotlight on VU,” was produced and directed by students enrolled in a producing/directing class taught last spring by Dr. Phillip Powell, assistant professor of communication.
The program highlights Valpo’s Department of Geography and Meteorology, student radio station WVUR-FM, several intramural sports, fraternity and sorority organizations, the Acabellas (a women’s acapella group) and VuVox (a men’s acapella group).
Several local students were among those selected for the fall term dean’s list at Augustana College in Rock Island.
Students who earned this honor are those who maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.
Among those earning high honors were senior Hollie Boetscher, a resident of Oak Lawn, who is majoring in communication science and disorders; and senior Samantha Laskowski, a resident of Burbank, who is majoring in biology and pre-medicine.
Also earning high honors were junior Kofi Sam, a resident of Chicago’s Southwest Side, who is majoring in women and gender studies and political science; and freshman Brittney Sexton, a resident of Oak Lawn, who is majoring in general studies.
