Orland Park Employee Is Named Nurse of Year

Alden Orland Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center’s Pat Jentzen, R.N., recently received the Nurse of the Year Award at the Illinois Health Care Association (IHCA) Convention in Peoria.

The award recognizes Pat’s job performance and contribution to quality of life for residents at the rehabilitation center.

After graduating from Loyola University College of Nursing 44 years ago, Jentzen worked at many hospitals and nursing homes, but says she fell in love with geriatric nursing and rehab 20 years ago, when her father was sick and she observed the way the nurses cared for him with respect and compassion.

NURSE OF THE YEAR — Alden Orland Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center’s Pat Jentzen, R.N., is congratulated for being named the 2009 Nurse of the Year by Katie Maniatis, Administrator, Alden Orland Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Her co-workers praise her for the same qualities that made her want to work in rehabilitation and long-term care: for being a great listener, a born leader, a hard worker and a compassionate and caring individual.

Jentzen’s fellow nurses also say that “she is a true role model for everyone she works with and resembles unforgettable people such as Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa.”

“Her dedication to her job and especially to her residents cannot be measured. She is always on time and has a great attendance record. She comes to work early to replace sick nurses that have to leave early and she even comes in on her nights off to assist with staffing shortages. She does not like to leave other nurses working short and therefore always tries to be flexible and change her personal schedule,” said Cindy Corcuera, R.N., Assistant Director of Nursing, Alden Orland Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 6450 S. 97th Ave., Orland Park.

“Pat is the epitome of strength, intelligence, integrity, resilience and dedication,” said Katie Maniatis, administrator, Alden Orland Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. “She takes on the most difficult shift — the night shift. This in and of itself shows strength. She also shows strength in every step of her work. Her demeanor is nothing less than angelic and dedication is her middle name.”
