Thanksgiving Wish Is To Meet Mother
With the holidays quickly approaching, people everywhere will soon reflect and give thanks for the many blessings in their lives. One West Lawn woman, Mary Kay Rosado, is hoping that this holiday season will be one to remember for years to come.
Rosado is currently participating in the Macy’s Believe 2009 Campaign, hoping for a chance to finally meet her biological mother. When she received an e-mail from Macy’s asking her what she believes, Rosado immediately thought of her adoption and the mother that she has never met.
Rosado was raised in Chicago and graduated from Bogan High School.
After graduation, she attended Daley College, where she met her husband of 29 years.
While raising two sons, Rosado received her bachelor’s degree from St. Xavier University in Business Management and later received her MBA from Keller Graduate School.
Her life, like any other, has had its struggles, but she celebrates in the love of her family, her dogs, and the outdoors. Yet, a small part of her still feels incomplete, and this is where her story starts.
Though Rosado’s story has been a long time in the making, it begins in Hungary during the revolution of 1956. Her mother was rescued from a refugee camp by a World War II army plane and transported to America.
At the time, she was pregnant with Rosado but decided to give her up for adoption after giving birth in the United States.
“She was young, nervous, and didn’t speak English,” says Rosado. “I can understand.”
Since then, Rosado has been searching for her biological mother, and finally, with the support of her entire family and the help of a private investigator, found her five years ago.
Her mother lives in Switzerland but the two frequently talk. “We share our life stories over the phone,” explains Rosado. “The only thing left is to meet her.”
A true believer of fate, Rosado feels that this Macy’s “I Believe” contest would be the perfect opportunity to tell her story and, if the timing is right, meet her biological mother.
“If God believes this to be the time, then I would meet her at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” states Rosado.
After sharing their stories online, the three contestants with the highest vote totals will win a trip to New York City for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2010, where they will showcase what “they believe.”
“With the love of God, I believe we will reunite at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where I will thank my biological mother for giving, and we will share in a full reunion,” she says.
Rosado’s adoptive parents were unable to conceive. She believes Thanksgiving Day would be the perfect opportunity to thank her biological mother for the gift she gave her parents.
“If two people who have been separated want to get back together, that’s a good thing,” concludes Rosado.
The contest ends on Friday, Dec. 4 and individuals can vote once every 24 hours.
