Bridgeview OKs Hospitality Village Signs
Filling a Bridgeview Zoning Board vacancy and passing a resolution requesting that hospitality signs directing motorists to Bridgeview be installed on local interstate highways were the main items handled at the May 7 Bridgeview Village Board meeting.
With Mayor Steven Landek absent and Trustee Michael Pticek serving as president pro tem, the board unanimously appointed longtime resident Frances Green to fill a vacancy on the Zoning Board.
“She’s a sweetheart of a lady and very qualified,” said Pticek, noting that, among other things, Green has held every position on the Bridgeview Library Board of Trustees over her many years of involvement with that body, including president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
Green, who seldom misses a Village Board meeting, received a round of applause from the trustees and the audience upon her appointment.
Her late husband, Daniel, had also worked for the village in various capacities over many years, most recently as trustee and then village clerk before his death in December.
The seven-member Zoning Board meets monthly to approve subdivisions, rezoning, variations and planned unit development applications. Its recommendations then must be approved by the Village Board.
Green will fill a vacancy that opened when another member resigned,
Also at the meeting, at Trustee James Cecott’s request, the board approved a resolution requesting the installation of hospitality signs at locations on Interstates 80 and 294 that are close to Bridgeview.
The blue signs under the jurisdiction of the Illinois State Highway Authority would direct motorists to amenities in the village.
“They will direct people hopefully to our town so they know what we offer as far as restaurants, hotels, gas stations and other amenities. Right now we are definitely lacking in that regard,” said Cecott, who first brought the issue up at a committee meeting last month.
The Board also approved a request by Trustee Mary Sutton, chair of the Community Affairs, Social Service and Senior Citizens committee, to approve permits for the annual St. Fabian Family Fest and Carnival being held June 4-8, and waive the usual fees, as is customary.
In other business brought up by Sutton, the board also approved a resolution supporting Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
