School Events
Seventh-and eighth-grade students at St. Gall Elementary School, 5511 S. Sawyer Ave., will perform Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” at the school Friday, May 9.

Students were inducted into the National Honor Society April 18 in the school gymnasium of Mount Assisi Academy, 13860 Main St., Lemont.
The NHS program serves to recognize students who excel academically and have contributed to their school and local community by way of character, leadership, service and citizenship.
Among current NHS members is senior Kaitlin Healy, a Clearing resident and graduate of St. Rene Goupil Elementary School. Junior members include Victoria Gott, a Garfield Ridge resident who attended St. Daniel the Prophet Elementary School; and Angela Repel, a Scottsdale resident who attended St. Bede the Venerable.

Nineteen art students from Mother McAuley High School, 3737 W. 99th St., have their artwork currently on display in the 9th Annual Chicago Area 4 x 5 Art Exhibit hosted by William Fremd High School in Palatine.
This is a regional exhibit that displays artwork from students from more than 40 high schools in Chicago and surrounding suburbs
McAuley students who have had their artwork exhibited are Ellen Babbington, Patricia Corona, Margaret Curran, Courtney Dowling, Katie Gallagher, Lorry Henderson, Christine Kazlauskas, Rosemary Maslanka, Tiffany Oskvarek, Sarah Parker, Samantha Raske, Shannon Ready, Kaya Robinson, Cecily Rodriquez, Erika Sanchez, Maureen Sullivan, Katlyn Tracy, Melissa Tumpich and Sam Underwood.
Senior Samantha Raske received an honorable mention for her entry.
The Mother McAuley High School Senior Art Show, curated by instructor Kathleen Gordon Davis, was featured last month at an Art Exhibit at Franklin Framing, 13019 S. Western Ave., Blue Island.
Featured students included Babbington, Katherine Campos, Corona, Dowling, Roxanne Gomez, Alyssa Gutierrez, Henderson, Alexandra Howard, Ashley Huntington, Katlyn Jezior, Kazlauskas, Jennifer Leon, Maslanka, Anita Mijic, Parker, Sarah Puchalski, Raske, Rodriquez, Sanchez, Katie Sarhage, Sullivan, Tracy and Kelly Voith.

Several Southwest Side high schools made the list of final-round winners to participate in the statewide safety initiative designed to educate teens about safe driving, Operation Teen Safe Driving.
The announcement comes as Illinois records a decline in teen fatalities in vehicle crashes so far this year. From Jan. 1 through April 15, 22 teens (ages 16 to 19) lost their lives on Illinois roadways. During the same time period last year, there were 57 deaths, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The winning Region I local schools are Curie, 4959 S. Archer Ave.; Maria, 6727 S. California Ave.; De La Salle Institute, 3455 S. Wabash Ave.; and De La Salle-Lourdes Hall, 1040 W. 32nd Place.

Recreation and music camps will be offered for grade school students this summer at St. Rita High School, 7740 S. Western Ave.
The band camp will be held for boys and girls in the fourth grade through incoming freshmen. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 7-11. The registration fee is $100.
Cindy Gradek, the St. Rita music director, will direct the camp.
A recreation camp will be held for youths entering the first grade through freshman year. Directing the camp will be St. Rita coach Jay Standring. The sessions will be held Monday through Friday.
