22nd Irish Fest Is Planned At Gaelic Park
Among the attractions at the 22nd Annual Irish Fest being held Memorial Day weekend, May 23 to 26, at Gaelic Park, 6119 W. 147th St., Oak Forest, will be live music and dancing, food, a new cultural tent and a carnival midway.
It will be open from 3 to 11 p.m. Friday; noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and noon to 8 p.m. Monday.
The $15 regular admission includes unlimited carnival rides, and admission is half-price from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday.
Admission is $12 for adults 65 and older, and children 12 and younger.
A special Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Appearing for the first time at the fest will be Chicago-based singer and songwriter Michael McDermott.
Other performers will include the duo of fiddler Liz Carroll, another Chicagoan, and guitarist John Doyle; the Makem & Spain Brothers; Black 47; and about a dozen other musical acts, such as Beatles tribute band American English; and Elevation, a U2 cover band.
The fest will also feature an Irish dog exhibition, and a new cultural tent featuring exhibits of Connemara ponies, ceili dancing, knitting, and a lesson on “pouring the perfect pint of Guinness.”
Food vendors, 20 Irish import stores, an Irish tea room and free parking will also be available.
