School Events
A group of local students was selected for the “A” honor roll for the first semester of 2007-08 school year at Nazareth Academy, 1209 W. Ogden Ave., LaGrange Park.
The “A” honor roll indicates a grade point average of 3.5 to 4.0 on a four-point scale.
Earning “A” honors were seniors Amy DeVito, Garfield Ridge; Meaghan Foody, West Lawn; Amanda Langer, Garfield Ridge; Daniel Sheehan, Garfield Ridge; and Courtney Waickus, Garfield Ridge.
Local juniors earning high honors were Garfield Ridge residents Zachary Basile, Samantha Castillo, Paulina Jadura, Jamie O’Connell, Cassie Stachura and Mitchell Steinbrenner.
Receiving “A” honors were local sophomores Jaclyn Baker, Garfield Ridge; Odila Fernandez, Clearing; Robert Klaus, Garfield Ridge; Jillian Paluch, Garfield Ridge; Ryan Szymkiewicz, Garfield Ridge; and Daniel Woods, Garfield Ridge.
Freshmen earning “A” honors were Brian Burke, Garfield Ridge; Nicole Kowalczyk, Garfield Ridge; Elizabeth Kusper, West Lawn; Samantha Mackowiak, West Lawn; Jordan Marek, Clearing; Victoria Marshall, Garfield Ridge; Patino Raul, Garfield Ridge; Carolyn Redmond, Garfield Ridge; and Matthew Steinbrenner, Garfield Ridge.

The annual National Honor Society Induction and presentation of honor cords and certificates were recently presented to students at St. Laurence High School, 5556 W. 77th St., Burbank.
Included in the program were the presentation of honor cords to seniors, the presentation of recognition certificates to juniors who already were members, and the presentation of certificates to juniors who already were members.
The presentation of certificates to newly inducted sophomores and juniors also took place. A candle-lighting ceremony took place and remarks were given by Tom Ondrla, the school president.
Among the Class of 2008 students who received their honor cords during the ceremony were Brian Brock, Thomas Cernauskas, Joseph Covey, Andrew Dauparas, Vincent Dore, Christopher Dronzek, Kevin Dybas, Paul Gal, Jordan Jaber, Joseph Jones, Joseph Kelly, David Kochanowicz, Eric Konieczka, Stephen Lesniewski, Michael Maielaro, John McGinty, Jeremy Mikula, William Miller, Luke Paterno and Ryan Rodriguez.
Also receiving the honor were Peter Ryszkiewicz, Eric Senase, James Sernek, Thomas Simek, Ammar Sunbill, Ryan Tabor, Christopher Tsouklas, Gianni Valsecchi, Francisco Velasquez, Anthony Walas and Michael Ward.
“Once again we experienced a very beautiful evening here at St. Laurence,” said Agnes Kasboske, who co-moderates the National Honor Society with Karen Mikan. “These young men represent the best that the school has to offer.”

A “senior prom” for residents ages 58 and older will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 23 in the gym at Kennedy High School, 6325 W. 56th St.
Admission is free. The prom theme is “Fly Me To The Moon.”

Recreation and music camps will be offered for grade school students this summer at St. Rita High School, 7740 S. Western Ave.
The band camp will be held for boys and girls in the fourth grade through incoming freshmen. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 7-11. The registration fee is $100.
Cindy Gradek, the St. Rita music director, will direct the camp.
A recreation camp will be held for youths entering the first grade through freshman year. Directing the camp will be St. Rita coach Jay Standring. The sessions will be held Monday through Friday.
Session I will be June 9-13, Session 2 will be June 16-20, and Session 3 will be June 23-27.
